Our club is a unique and special place, at an interesting time in its evolution. I’ve been serving on the membership committee since last fall and have found reward in the chance to substantially impact our future. The dynamic within our team is consistent with my philosophy – don’t mess up a good thing, but rather apply thoughtful, steady, proficient improvement while carefully maintaining the spirit we have.
As an important water sports hub, we do an excellent job of supporting and shaping the Seattle rowing community, while offering a warm welcome and slew of amenities to non-rowers alike. This is just one small aspect of the diversity we continue to foster in order to sustain a multifaceted club environment. As a board member I would particularly help represent that latter side of our membership.
My family knew right away this was a remarkable place, the vibe clearly inviting, cooperative, and trusting. Our use of the club is social, hosting events, and boating / water sports – the highly motorized kind. The prime location works well for meeting friends on the way out to bigger water, and my husband’s office is nearby on Eastlake. He and I have three children – two teenage boys and our daughter who is finishing her first year at Pitzer College. We’ve lived in Queen Anne for nearly two decades and are entrenched in Seattle’s varied communities.
I believe my professional experience lines me up nicely for the duties of this position. My alma mater is Arizona State (BFA graphic design) and I hold an MBA (technology management) from UW. I spent 15 years in branding / marketing / design / internet, a pioneer when I founded a web design/development company in 1998. This firm was acquired by a leading northwest technology consultancy for which I served as Creative Director before spinning off once again to work independently. I have held leadership roles within the Forum for Women Entrepreneurs Seattle Chapter as well as UW Foster School of Business alumni programs. I was awarded the Foster School Technology Management MBA Entrepreneur of the Year Award. A designer at heart, in my free time I enjoy anything artistic – in addition to organizing, aerial circus arts, tennis, and savoring time with my growing kids.
I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve in this capacity at College Club, along with the comradery between people who care deeply about this place as I do.
